Round table meeting on Judicial Accountability

On November 2022, 17, a round table meeting was held at the Office of the Georgian Court Watch, which was attended by the representatives of the court Watch, as well as various non-governmental organizations and judges.

The meeting was led by Nino Tsereteli, a researcher at Democrat Reporting International, and Simone Benvenuti, an associate professor at the University of Rome.

At the same time, the speakers are working on the research of formal and informal accountability mechanisms in the judicial system, funded by the Italian and Georgian scientific foundations (Consiglio Nazionale delle Rierche (CNR-Italy), Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia).

The presentation focused on the accountability of the court system in Georgia as well as in Italy. They also reviewed the concept of court accountability, formal and informal mechanisms, and the relationship between accountability and independence. At the end of the meeting, Simone Benvenuti introduced the model of promotion (encouragement) of court chairs and judges in Italy.
