On June 9 and 13, 2023, in Kutaisi and Batumi, a screening of the Polish documentary film "Judges under pressure" was held, organized by the Georgian Court Watch, Independent Lawyers Group and Democracy Index - Georgia.
The film is about restrictions on the independence of judges in Poland and their resistance. "Judges under pressure" tells about the judges who, despite the pressure, protect the constitution and the principle of separation of powers. It depicts the relentless struggle of Judge Igor Tulia for the independence of the judiciary, despite the pressure on him. At the same time, the solidarity shown to Igor Tulia not only by his colleagues, but also by Polish citizens is impressive.
After the screening of the film, there was a discussion about the challenges in the justice system, the independence of the courts and the importance of public activism. The discussions were led by Irakli Kordzakhia, representative of the group of independent lawyers, and Nazi Janezashvili, director of Georgian Court Watch.
The screenings of the film were attended by local civil society representatives, lawyers, students and other interested persons.
The event was supported by the USAID Rule of Law Program
