On September 14 and 16, 2022, at the initiative of Georgian Court Watch, the subsequent meetings of a network of court watchers were held in Rustavi and Kutaisi.
The meeting was attended by active citizens interested in the judicial topic, who expressed their interest in joining the project. The meeting was chaired by Ana Shalamberidze, a legal expert of the Court Watch of Georgia.
As Ana Shalamberidze, a legal expert of the Watch of the Court of Georgia, noted, a part of the meeting in Rustavi was devoted to discussing the problems in the court and working on the advocacy campaign, planning the appropriate steps and activities. Members of the network were also provided with interesting public information requested from the Rustavi City Court. The network will actively continue to work on solving the problems that have been identified as the highest priority after the review of the opinions of the members of the network.
The main part of the meeting in Kutaisi was devoted to the presentation of the monitoring report of Kutaisi City and Appeal Courts to the members of the network. During the development of the report, attention was paid to, and the problems and challenges analyzed were the ones observed in the court by the members of the network. At the meeting, the next steps to be taken jointly within the framework of the advocacy campaign were also discussed.
The network of Georgian Court Watch was created within the framework of the project "Involvement of active citizens for a better judicial system". The project is implemented with the financing of the European Foundation, with a grant from the Danish International Development Agency.
The goal of the project is to improve the independence, impartiality, and effectiveness of the court through civil participation, monitoring, and advocacy. Accordingly, Georgian Court Watch created a network of active citizens in Kutaisi and Rustavi.
